  I would like to move my site to a primary domani .com and use the wordpress web application.
  As it is a small domain of few pages may I buy only the .com domain or I need to buy also the basic upgrade (that basically I don’t need)?
  In other words buying only the .com domain I will have anyway the web application to manage my site?

  The site I need help with is [visible only to staff] (email visible only to moderators and staff).

  You can buy just the custom domain name separately, but you will need a paid plan (any paid plan) to set it as your site’s primary address: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address
