Basic question from capable wordpress web-admin

    Hi,
    I’ve been using WordPress for years. I use the TwentySeventeen theme on multiple sites. I can change the page colours of different posts on the home page, but I’ve seen some sites where they’ll use a fade from one colour on the left to a different colour on the right on the same post?
    Then say on the next post down, I’ve seen some sites use patterns as their post background and moves when you scroll-up/down?
    It’s got to be the most common website design of the last two years but I honestly don’t know how it’s done. Is it not a TwentySeventeen theme? Is everyone using a common plugin I don’t know about? Are a lot of people going to the trouble using different background images for each post? There must be a really simple answer. It’s driving me crazy. What is it?
