Best practice for creating new web design, theme, content while a current site is up

    Hi,

    I have a current WordPress site, but I want to refresh my website with a new theme, design and content. What is the best practice to do this without interrupting content on my current website? Do I create a secondary site as I design, create content, or do I edit the current site and just try to do it in a time-sensitive way so it’s not left looking uncompleted or mismatched? Thanks in advance.
