Billing on a free site

I keep getting attempted charges to my free account. There are no billing statements or anything on my account page showing a subscription to anything.

Can you share more details. What is the address of your free WordPress.com site? Did you attempt to purchase an upgrade and then change your mind? If you have an upgrade showing in your shopping cart you can remove it by placing it in the trash bin.

No there’s nothing. I deleted my page. There’s nothing in my subscription list, cart, or billing history.

That doesn’t help cause I don’t have a statement. Thankfully my bank is bouncing it back but they are still trying to charge me.

Can you please explain what you mean by attempted charges?
The account you’re using to post here has never bought anything from WordPress.com, and we don’t have any credit card info for you as you’ve never provided that to us. So there’s no way we could be charging you.
If you have ever bought upgrades from us using another WordPress.com account, please log in as that account to cancel any upgrades it might still own.

I keep getting a message from PayPal that my bank denied a payment of $48 through PayPal from WordPress. I have not purchased anything. I have no other accounts than this one. I have tried every other email address I’ve ever had to see if I had a forgotten account, and the log in says users matching those emails do not exist.

Do you have a payment ID from PayPal for the failed payments? If so, please send that to our billing support team using the form at https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?whywasi=charged. They can then try to look it up in our system.
