Block access to content before selling ?

I am busy monetising a website for my client and she want to sell select news articles to her readers. Can this be achieved with the simple payment functionality?
    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Simple Payments is only a payment gateway. So while you can set it up with a product image and description, all it will do is make it easy for someone to pay. The site owner will still have to manually send them the product that they paid for, and will likely need a contact form as well to allow the customer to actually place an order and provide their details.

If that works for you and your client, then you can absolutely use Simple Payments for this.

However, it might be better in the long run to use a plugin like WooCommerce instead, which allows you to sell digital/downloadable products, can be integrated with several payment gateways, including PayPal, and in the case of downloadable products essentially makes the actual order fulfilment completely automated.

You can see more about how that works here:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/digital-downloadable-product-handling/

WooCommerce also has a Membership add-on that you can use to hide the articles behind a paywall, so someone has a subscription that lets them access the restricted content rather than paying for one-off articles.

If you want to explore those options further you can contact WooCommerce support at https://woocommerce.com/contact-us/
