User name:- Sebastian, doesn’t appear to have a gravator.
Website:- relatocorto.comWithin seconds of publishing a post, he (it) likes it.
That’s the wrong side of concerning in my book.
And it’s annoying as it’s playing around with my notifications.
He (it) has also appeared on other blogs who follow me.
Now they also have multiple notifications to cope with.Gositestat.com reports it as:-

Daily Pageviews 25,05225,052 page views a day? That’s got to be a bot!
Would someone please block his (it’s) intrusions.

Serendipity would have it that this user Liked one of my posts on a “hidden” test site yesterday, also within seconds of the post being published. The user name is
itu146and it doesn’t appear that the site connected to the gravatar is hosted here on WPcom since the site URL has www in it. -

Hey, @justjennifer – Good to know. We have received a few complaints of instaliking lately, so it is definitely something we’re going to monitor. This particular user had quite a few likes in a short period of time when I checked their account.
@talavernon – there isn’t a way to filter out that user’s particular like, but rest assured, they won’t be able to like anything on your site moving forward.

@247paulgray – until they get this worked out, maybe consider adding this person’s account
itu146to your Discussion settings>Disallow comments box and then save your settings. That is supposed to prevent the user from even seeing the Like option, but if it is a bot, it might not work. Still, worth a try. https://wordpress.com/support/comment-likes/#how-to-manage-comment-likesUnfortunately it won’t remove the gravatar from displaying on already Liked posts.
You should note that you might need to reset your Akismet settings after you save your new Discussion settings. There’s an open issue with the developers on this.
staff-doublebassd et al, since the user is connected via Jetpack, maybe there’s an abuse option there?

@247paulgray – thanks so much for your patience while we look into this further. It’s also worth trying @justjennifer’s advice there, though, that still may not resolve this as they mentioned. We will report back once we have more information to share.

I am new to WordPress (since yesterday) and I only have 5 posts so far. I searched for this problem because I just wrote quite a long post compared to my others but I had a like immediately and I thought they couldnt have read the post in 3 seconds and it is the person mentioned here “Sebastian”. Will this happen every time I post now? Will this person keep liking my posts without reading them? What is the point of him doing it please and should I be worried of its a bot? Sorry for silly questions but I dont know anything about blogging yet.

I see that @justjennifer added the username of this person and it was “itu46”. It looks like he has changed it as it’s now showing as “avyaseo5”. I assume that is how he has got around the likes being disabled previously?

Yes, unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening. This particular spammer has created tons of new accounts and is creating new ones as quickly as we are suspending them. This has been an issue for weeks now and has been escalated to our Spam team. They’ve been looking intently into shutting this spam down for good. We’ve received a decent amount of reports from users who have been affected by this, so it’s a problem we want to resolve as soon as possible.
We apologize for the inconvenience but rest assured we are looking into this.

There is no security issue – it’s just spam which is absolutely annoying for sure, but nothing more than that. So, I would ignore it but we’ll keep you updated with our findings.
