Blocks…?

What exactly is the purpose of a block? Say I simply want to write about Theology, do I need to set up a block to be able to consistently produce a clean looking post?

Hi there,
A block refers to any unit of content in the editor. So if you write a paragraph, that paragraph exists inside a paragraph block. You can change how that specific paragraph looks using the settings for that block without it affecting any other unit of content in the same post, and if you want to change the order of your paragraphs you do it by simply dragging the block where you want it.
There are different blocks for different types of content, e.g. images, headings, lists, quoted text, poetry, etc, each having their own settings for how that type of content looks by default, and for how you can modify it. Behind the scenes we create the correct HTML code for the block and settings you select, but without you having to worry about the code itself.
There’s nothing to “set up”, though: to add a new paragraph block, simply click in the editor and start typing. When you press Enter to start a new paragraph, it automatically creates a new paragraph block. If you want to add a different block at a particular point, type
/and the name of the block, e.g./list, to create that block, or click the + symbol that appear next to the last empty block, and between blocks as you move your mouse pointer over them. You can also find more detailed information on how the block editor works at the link below, but let me know if you have any more questions:
