Blog display of Appleton theme?
-
Hi,
I really like the appearance of the new FSE “Appleton” portfolio theme, though see no formal blog menu item…wondering about the blog display?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
For any theme, including Appleton, you can add a link to your blog in your menu. Currently, I see your blog is on your homepage so you have a “Home” link in your menu instead of a “Blog” link. Would you like to rename “Home” to “Blog” or move your blog to a separate page?
If you want to rename your menu item “Home” to “Blog” here is a guide to help you do that:
https://wordpress.com/support/menus/add-links-to-a-menu/#customize-the-menu-item-text
If you’d like to move your blog page and add a separate link for it, you have two options. You could change your “Homepage Settings” in your customizer from “Your latest posts to “A static page”. Here is a guide to help you do this:
https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/#step-3-create-a-blog-page-optional
Or if you want a more custom display for your blog, you could create a new page and add a Blog posts block. Here is a guide on how that works:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/#add-the-blog-posts-block
I hope this helps!

Thanks for clarifying! It seems the theme designer didn’t choose to include a sample blog page. However, I’ve activated the Appleton theme on one of my test sites, so feel free to check out the sample blog to see how it would look:

Hi @flyingdisc,
When a theme isn’t primarily created as a blogging theme, the theme demo doesn’t necessarily include example blog posts. That doesn’t mean you can’t use the theme for a blog, but the demo is used to showcase the primary use-case the developer had in mind when designing the theme.
In the case of Appleton, it was created specifically to be used as a portfolio theme that artists can use to showcase their work, so that’s how the demo site has been set up.
I hope that answers your question, but let me know if have any others.
Kudos for going above and beyond in activating the theme on your test site for the OP to see :)

I did have a few more questions about the Appleton portfolio theme…
Viewing the theme demo, are the “Recent Works” and/or “Past Works” images displayed from Portfolio Projects, or are these images pulled from blog posts?
And, per the (above) test site blog display, the column (body/text) width appears to be 840 pixels. Currently, I’m using the Blockbase theme, which has column width options of 620/1000 pixels in FSE. Does the Appleton theme include column width options, or is it set at 840?
Thanks.

The images weren’t being pulled from a portfolio or blog post, but rather is individually added via the column block:

Max width for Appleton is 1400px, so you’ll be able to set the custom width of each column within the column block under the column setting module:
Hope this helps.

Hi @nickjkam,,
I see you were able to activate your cookies banner on appleton, mine disappeared when I switched themes. How did you activate the cookies banner on appleton without a widget (the appearance menu in my dashboard no longer shows widgets and neither does the abbreviated “customize” option?…. :) -
Hi @aimeemqn since this is a different issue from the one in the original post, could you start a new topic here?
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1You can add a “modlook” tag if you’d like to get staff attention.
That way the people who have been working on this topic won’t get unwanted notifications as we troubleshoot your issue. Happy to take a look at where your banner went!
