Your homepage is the first page visitors see when they arrive at your site. This guide explains how to find and edit your homepage.

Find your homepage

To manage your homepage, first identify your theme type. Visit your site’s dashboard and check under Appearance. If you have Editor, you’re using a block theme. If you see only Customize, you have a classic theme.

The Appearance menu open in the site dashboard, and an arrow pointing to the Editor submenu.

Block themes include a built-in homepage that you edit in the Site Editor. This homepage does not appear in your Pages list—it is part of your theme’s design. To change it, see Edit your default homepage.

Classic themes (and some third-party themes) do not include a built-in homepage. To create one, you set a published page as a static homepage. See Set a static homepage.

Edit your default homepage

When using a block theme, you can customize the full design and content of your home page through the Site Editor. To customize your block theme’s built-in homepage:

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor in your site’s dashboard.
  2. Click your homepage on the right to open it.
  3. Edit, add, or remove content as needed, then click Save.

For a full walkthrough, see Edit the default homepage.

Note: If your block theme’s homepage does not appear when visiting your website, navigate to Settings → Reading and make sure your homepage is set to display “Your latest posts.” Despite the name, this setting displays your Front Page template, not a list of blog posts.

Set a static homepage

Most classic themes default to using your latest posts as your homepage. Setting a static home page on a classic theme gives you more control over your homepage design. To set one, you need at least one published page.

To set one of your published pages as your homepage:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Reading.
  3. Under “Your homepage displays“, select “A static page”.
  4. In the Homepage dropdown, select the page you want to use. Only published pages appear in this list—drafts will not show.
  5. Click the “Save Changes” button.
A static page is selected, and pages are chosen for homepage and posts pages.

Edit your static homepage content

Once you have set a static homepage, you can edit its content from the Pages section of your dashboard.

To edit your static homepage content, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Pages and click the title of your home page.
  2. Edit, add, or remove blocks as needed.
  3. Click Save to save your changes.

Restore the default homepage

To switch back to your theme’s built-in homepage:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Reading.
  3. Select “Your latest posts”.
  4. Click “Save Changes”.

Troubleshoot your homepage
