Blog editing
-
Hello Team WordPress,
Hope you are well.
I am very new to WordPress.com and have administrator access to edit a blog on a Researcher’s behalf. I would like to know:
– How to add footnotes to a blog post in a way that allows the reader to click on a footnote number which would then take them to the bottom of the blog post page where they can read more OR click on a link that would open in a different tab/window. I do not have a business account so I am unsure whether footnote plugins are available to me.
– I would also like to know how to better format the blog posts; I receive information from the researcher in Word format and usually copy and paste it onto a new post. However, I am unable to align the text so that it is ‘justified’ whenever certain paragraphs are numbered as WordPress seems to automatically indent numbered paragraphs and I can’t find an option to keep it in alignment with the rest of the text.
Please note we are not looking to profit from this particular blog or advertise it to the public and would like to keep it as simple as possible. Neither I nor the Researcher have any knowledge of coding.
Any support would be highly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Nour Hidayet

Hi there!
On a free plan, you wouldn’t be able to use plugins at all, but there are some alternatives for what you’re trying to achieve. You could try adding page jumps to link to certain parts of the post, as explained here:
https://wordpress.com/support/splitting-content/page-jumps/.
You can also just add a Paragraph Block and add the footnotes as links there. You will be able to style it, change the font size, etc., to make it look more like typical footnotes.
As for copying and pasting text from Word – you could try copying the text without the formatting, pasting it as plain text into the Classic Block:
