Hi Melisa,
Can you send me a screenshot showing the issue with your blog in Internet Explorer? I checked in the latest version (IE10) and in IE8 and did not see any obvious problems with how the blog is displayed. However, we do our best to support older browser versions when possible, and I’d be happy to look into this for you if you’re seeing problems in IE8.

Hi Rachel,
Thank you for your reply. I have uploaded a screenshot of the blog in EI 8.0. You can see under my Media items. It seems the header needs the following tag; but I’m not 100% sure:
<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=IEVersion”>.I’ll leave it in your capable hands to assist. Unfortunately, the IT Dept. of my organizations only supports EI 8.0, and that would be 13,000 unhappy employees not able to view the blog properly!
Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you,

Hi there,
Thanks for that screenshot. I’m not able to reproduce the issue you’re seeing with those images, though. Here’s what I see when I visit your blog in IE8: https://cloudup.com/c1osIvZFm6O
That suggests that a specific browser setting or extension/add-on may be causing the problem you’re seeing. You may want to make sure that Compatibility View is disabled, as that can cause problems with how the blog is displayed:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
Also, you can try starting Internet Explorer in No Add-ons mode, to see if a browser add-on is interfering with your blog’s layout.
Ultimately, however, there isn’t much we can do to resolve issues layout issues like this, especially if we can’t reproduce them on our end. We do our best to make sure that blogs work in older browsers, but older browsers like IE8 don’t support all of the modern development techniques that are currently used, and that can affect the blog layout and design.

Hi Rachel,
I have changed the settings and I’m still having issues viewing the blog correctly. Please note that in my Department of 13 people, about 10 are having problems with it; one of them uses EI 9.0.
The demo of this template – Oxygen, works well in EI 8.0, which was one of the reasons why chose it, as to avoid any compatibility problems!
Unfortunately, we can’t leave the blog as is, since we’re targeting not only our internal staff of 13,000 employees, but also the patients, clients and residents of Eastern Health, about 300,000 people – and the great majority use Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher.
Is it possible for you to test the tag below the header of our blog, so the it is the website that forces the browser to display using EI 8.0 Standards, instead of leaving it to the end user? That seems to be the best way to go about it; I would try it but I have no access to insert the piece of code in there.
80% of what I have read is that this is best controlled through the web site. Below is a section taken from a Google search:
You can force a particular document mode by using the X-UA-Compatible HTTP header or by using the <meta> tag equivalent:
<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=IEVersion”>Looking forward to your reply,

Also – please remember to hover over, or click on the last two recent posts. When the page loads, everything looks good; the images pop-over (covering the text of the right-hand side column) only when you try to hover/click on them. After that, the images/layout don’t recover.
Thanks,

Hi Melisa,
I was finally able to reproduce this issue, but only when viewing your site using Internet Explorer’s compatibility view with IE7 standards. Can you please make sure that you and the others in your department are not viewing the site with compatibility view turned on:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
We aren’t able to support IE7 standards, and from all of our testing this is not an issue with IE8 standards and up. Thanks!

HI Rachel,
Yes, I understand that we must view it in IE 8 Standards, but this has to be done every time we visit the website! We can’t possibly communicate this to everyone who will ever visit our site using EI.
To ensure consistency, it is best that ourWord Press site forces the browser to use IE 8 Standards – instead of leaving it to the end-user!
Could you please add the tag to the header of our Word Press site at storyline.easternhealth.ca, so that the issue is fixed once and for all?
<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=IEVersion”>
If not, could you please advise who do we have to contact in order to do so?
Thank you for your assistance.
Melisa
Thank you!

Hi Melisa,
I’m sorry, but meta tags like that can’t be added to individual sites here at WordPress.com, which is why I was looking for an alternate solution to this issue. If this is an absolute must for you, I recommend setting up a self-hosted site using the free WordPress.org software. You can learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
