Blog Posts Not Appearing in the ‘Blog’ Tab
-
Hello,
I am fairly new to WordPress and am having trouble figuring out how to get my blog posts to appear under the ‘Blog’ tab itself. I have so far created two posts, but neither appears there. In fact, while I can see these two posts when I click the ‘Reader’ button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, I can’t find them in any other way at the moment. Additionally, is there a way to create a list of recent blog posts off to the side on the Home page? If so, how do I do that? Thank you!Best,
Justin -
Hi Justin, can you share the link of the site you need help with so we can take a look? Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for your message! Here is the link to the blog I am working on called “Hannibal ad Portas.”
https://wordpress.com/view/hannibaladportas287082908.wordpress.com
If possible, I would like the formatting of this blog to resemble the formatting of another blog my aunt helped me set up a few years ago called “Pothos: My Journey in the Footsteps of Alexander the Great.”
https://wordpress.com/view/pothosweb.wordpress.com
In particular, I would like for there to be a menu off to the left-hand side of the homepage called “Recent Posts.” For some reason, though, I am having a terrible time figuring out how to set something like that up. I am also uncertain how to make sure that both my current and future posts are included in this menu. Any help you can provide on either count would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Best,

Hi again, let’s start with themes. https://wordpress.com/support/themes/
On pothosweb.wordpress.com, you are using the Sapor theme, https://wordpress.com/theme/sapor which is still available and can be used on your other site hannibaladportas
On hannibaladportas287082908.wordpress.com you are using the Hever theme, https://wordpress.com/theme/hever which is a newish theme that takes full advantage of the Block Editor’s features. Most if not all the new Block Style themes switch your site’s front page to a static page. However, it looks like you’ve got your site set up to display Your Recent Posts instead.
If you want to change hannibaladportas to the Sapor theme, go to your MySite>Design>Theme and then scroll down a little on the right until you see a button that says “Show all themes” and click it.
In the search bar, add “Sapor”(without the quotes). Once the theme’s thumbnail appears, click the three dots in the lower right corner of the thumbnail and you can either preview your content in the theme by clicking “Try & Customize” which will open the Customizer, or “Activate” which will immediately switch your site from Hever to Sapor.
Once you’ve switched themes, you can add the Recent Posts widget to the sidebar in Sapor https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/recent-posts-widget/ and you can add that in the Customizer. I would recommend that you only list a maximum of 5-7 posts in that widget. If you want to display more than that, come back and we’ll work on listing those posts differently.
I know that’s a lot of information to take in, but take your time and read through the links. Post back here if you have more questions about this.

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you so much for your help! I have now managed to add in the Recent Posts widget, which I think helps a lot.
I have two further questions.
First, is there any way to change the color of the blog title that appears on the homepage? With the header image I have now added, the current blackish-grey title color doesn’t show up very well.
Second, I was wondering if it is possible to manually change the date of a post. The reason I ask is that I am hoping to turn what used to be the text on the static homepage into its own “Introduction” post. But, if I were to do so, I feel like it might be confusing to people to have the Introduction now coming after the two posts I have already made. Might this be possible?
Thanks again for your help! I think the blog is really coming together now.
Best,

Hello again, looking good!
Site Title and Tagline color: It looks like none of Sapor’s color palettes change the Site Title and Tagline color, so your only options without needing to upgrade to Premium to use CSS are to add that text in the image itself or use a color overlay to lighten either the entire header image or only the area around the Site Title and Tagline.
If you opt for the first option and add the information to the image, you should still leave your site title and tagline in Settings but in the Customizer under Site Identity uncheck the box next to “Display Site Title and Tagline” and save your changes.
Changing the date of a post after publishing: Not a good idea because search engines have already linked to the original date (it’s in the post title) as well as any place else it might appear. Changing the date after publishing will cause a 404 error. You don’t want that.
Instead of changing the date, make your introduction post “Sticky” which will pin it to the top of your blog page before any other new posts. I recommend that you keep that sticky post short. https://wordpress.com/support/post-and-page-visibility/#sticky-posts-posts-only
If you have a lot of information to share in that Introduction, other options are to create your site with a Static front page and move the Posts page to a separate page or, better, create a separate Page with that information and link to it both in the pinned sticky Post and in your site navigation..
Give that last bit a think and let me know if you want more information.
