Blog Referrals

    Hey, I am just curious about my blog post from yesterday:
    https://mtbnj.wordpress.com/2019/03/01/the-philadelphia-chop/

    Every day I get maybe 8-10 referrals from the WordPress Reader and maybe 5+ likes from people who follow through WP. I know this is not necessarily me-specific because they are often people looking to bring traffic to their own site. However, yesterday it appears that nothing fed from WordPress and I am curious if something in the post triggered it to be suppressed.

    I know this is a minor detail but I am trying to track what does/doesn’t get people to read and I am curious about 0. I mean, perhaps everyone hates Philly?

    Hi there,

    There’s nothing wrong with your post, no.

    Views fluctuate from day to day, and looking over your site stats you do occasionally get zero-view days, so this doesn’t seem unusual to me. Most likely the people who usually read your blog just haven’t been around since you published that post.

    Hmm, not sure I entirely buy that. Let me explain. In the month I have been posting, every day that I post something, I get anywhere from 3-15 views from the WordPress Reader – note that I will later move the date of the post to reflect the “real” date the event happened. So if you look at the date versus the views, that does not reflect reality per se.

    I am ok admitting that pretty much nobody cared about this post. That’s no big deal. What I am more concerned with is a reply like, “Oh looks like you ended your 30 day free WordPress trial and now you need to pay to have the posts show up on people’s feeds.”

    Sorry to be so cynical. I guess I just expect this sort of thing anymore.

    There is no 30 day trial, but perhaps staff should take a look at your post, because I tried to find it in the Reader and I couldn’t find it under any of your tags. That would explain the ‘no views’, if it’s not even in the Reader.

    Oh that’s a good call! I just searched on one of my tags and it didn’t come up. It’s entirely possible that the apostrophe in one of the tags causes issues somewhere. I’ll tool with it later to see if that’s breaking something.

    When a post doesn’t appear in the Reader it usually needs Staff assistance to fix it. I doubt it’s anything to do with an ‘apostrophe’, and that post didn’t come up under any of your tags anyway. If you still have a problem, ‘modlook’ this thread again for the staff to take a look.

    On another note, I have gotten ~80 views from yesterday, most from this URL:
    https://mtbnj-wordpress-com.cdn.ampproject.org/

    Which appears to be some Google caching plugin. Not sure if that’s related but it’s a curious coincidence.

    Hi there,

    As @kokkieh already mentioned, there’s nothing wrong with your site’s stats and nor so we penalize sites on the Free plan. WordPress.com Stats is a free service offered in all of our users be it free or paid.

    I’ll tag with modlook one more time. Second post in a row with basically no WP feed hits. Basically it goes from 5-10 a day to 0-1 in the last 2 posts.

    My friend that uses WP said that he did not see the post in the feed. Then he searched for it, read it in the reader, and still no stats showed up for that day.

    I mean I guess it is what it is, but It seems there is something not working to me. But whatever, if you guys insist, I’ll stop bothering but likely explore other blog hosts over time. Just saying “it’s fine” while someone who doesn’t know me verifies it doesn’t work for them, well, again I guess it is what it is.

    Hi there,

    So far, you have 32 views since you published your last post 5 hours ago. I followed your blog and have no problem finding your last three posts in my Reader, so that is not an issue. Stats can be wildly inconsistent day to day and trying to analyze visit/view trends this early on in your blog’s life can be deceptive. Your stats are fine and largely reflect the up and down view trend that many blogs at this stage experience. Just continue to post consistently like you have been and the stats will stabilize and become slightly more predictable in due time.
