Blog Site Setup

Is it possible to have the title and a line or two from the post plus the Posted On along with a link to a separate page with details of the posts?

It is my intention to create fairly detailed posts and I think each post should have its own page.

I should mention that I am using Microsoft Word (Blog Posts) documents so that may add a curveball to it. Currently the Word formatting is way off too.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

All posts have their own pages (so to speak). If you click the title of a post, you’ll see it open fully with the option for visitors to comment (if the comments option is enabled for that particular post). Here’s the link to a post for example https://r2d2proton.wordpress.com/2021/10/03/newprojectwizard/

If you want to display the posts partially on the posts page instead of showing the full view there, you can use the More block.

You’ll need to insert it when editing the post on WordPress.com. Anything that’s after the more block will show up only when a visitor enters the full view of the post. There will be a “Continue reading” or something similar (depends on the theme) that visitors will click on to keep reading the rest of the post.

Please try it out! If you have more questions, please go to https://wordpress.com/help/contact and send us a message. You have the WordPress.com Premium plan which gives you access to live chat support during the weekdays. You can chat with us at https://wordpress.com/help/contact if you have more questions. :)

That is good to know. I did test it too.

And the More block is decent. I would prefer that it automatically take a few lines rather than have to manually choose. Of course I prefer the best of both worlds :)

  • Thanks for clarifying.

If you like, you may want to try creating a new page and using the “Blog Posts Block” set up a custom feed. The block has a bunch of layout options as well as category/tag filtering, and the ability to set automatic excerpts at a text length of your choosing. More info here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
