  Hello, is there a payment feature for customers to buy items off my site? Not heavily product focused but will offer meal recipes and fitness guides for sale.

  Yes. There’s multiple levels of ecommerce offered on WordPress.com.

  For free, you could use a contact form + PayPal button to do the trick.

  With the premium plan you could use the simple payments options:
