Build a new website without disturbing exciting website ( existing is wordpress, hostgator, godaddy)

  I would like to redevelop my website on wordpress.com and use the wordpress hosting and possibly domain registration management. My existing site is on wordpress, hosted by hostgator, domain registered with Godaddy. How do I build and test a new website without interupting my existing website . I only want to link the new website to my domain name when I finished building and testing it.
