Building a marketplace or classified website

    I was hoping wordpress.com had some theme or add on that would support multi-merchant or individuals login and placing a classified advert? Or would this require wordpress.org with a designer? I cannot code and have no knowledge of hosting myself. Thanks

    Hi there,

    A theme only controls how your site looks, not how it works.

    To create a marketplace like this requires a plugin, like the WooCommerce Product Vendors plugin:

    Please may I bug you a little longer?
    1. Am I correct to assume that plugins work on both WordPress.com and WordPress.org? (I understand the difference relative to my general understanding) I just do not have the knowledge to host viz wordpress.org.
    2. Will woo-commerce plugins work on wordpress.com or only on woo-commerce? (I assume woo-commerce it’s another website-builder?
    3. Last question. I promise to leave you in peace. Our exchange rate is crazy. Makes everything 15 times more expensive. Is there a monthly rate? I wanted to try it before paying for the year. I am paying for 3 Shopify sites and 3 Google Suite accounts. I was just hoping I could pay for a month before the year as often companies like PayPal and many others offer their services in South Africa but they forget to mention that we cannot receive funds. Seriously. This is true or was true until one of our Banks did a deal with them. I know its technical and if you are not certain I will find out once I register. Thus, my request for a monthly rate as usually these things are only found out once registered. Sorry I know I talk too much. I really appreciate whatever you can tell me

    Yes, plugins work on the WordPress.org software no matter where you host your site. If you choose to host it on our platform (WordPress.com), then you’ll need to the Business or eCommerce plan to install plugins.

    WooCommerce is an e-commerce plugin available for all WordPress sites. As you understand to install it on WordPress.com though, you’ll need the Business or eCommerce plan.

    All upgrades and renewals can only be paid a year in advance. There’s no monthly payment option. We also support other currencies, but not ZAR yet.
