building a web site on wordpress
-
i presently have a domain name that i have purchased from GoDaddy. they were hosting my website a few years ago. I did not renew the web hosting with them but have kept the domain name. i used iWeb to build the original web site. Since iWeb does not exist anymore i will need to rebuild using wordpress. How easy to build is the first question and once it is built does wordpress host or would i need to have it hosted at Go Daddy? i work on a mac so is that any problem with building or getting someone to host? Thanks, Tom

Hi there,
IS IT HARD?
Short Answer: NO
Long Answer:
When you start building your very first website on WordPress you may find it a little bit tricky at first, but as you search on how to do specific things on WordPress and keep on building it, you get the hang of really fast.Remember, the key is to find the answers – nothing is really that hard on WordPress.
You can always rely on Google or just get the help from WordPress.COM forum or just get started with the WordPress.COM support here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/
WHERE TO HOST?
If you are building your site using WordPress.COM then you don’t have to worry about hosting at all. It is taken care of by Automattic(The company behind WordPress). Hosting is provided at no cost on WordPress.COM.For the free plan you get a storage space of 3GB, with the personal plan you get 6GB, with Premium plan you get 13GB of storage and with the Business plan you get unlimited storage on the WordPress servers.
To find out more about the features of these plans, click on this link:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/NOTE: You can use your existing domain with your WordPress.COM site. You just have to point your domain to WordPress servers using domain mapping. Read more about it here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/If you are building your site with WordPress.ORG-then yo have to get a dedicated hosting via hosting providers like GoDaddy, HostGator, etc. Because WordPress.ORG is a self-hosted platform using which you can build a Website or a Blog.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are different products. You can find out the differences between them here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/I WORK ON MAC, IS IT A PROBLEM?
Not at all, it really does not matter whether you work on Windows or a Mac. There are also desktop apps available for both Mac and Windows to make things easier: https://apps.wordpress.com/desktop/I hope this will help you building your website on WordPress.
All the best and Welcome to WordPress :) -

Web hosting service is free for all users, only the storage space is different for different plans. As i mentioned before, Free account has 3GB, Personal has 6GB,Premium has 13GB, Business has unlimited storage space.
So you are paying for the extra storage space on the server not for the hosting service.

Just to be sure, will i need to contact GoDaddy, who i have my domain name with and let them know that i will be building the web page in WordPress?
-
No, it’s not required. But if you have doubts you may contact their support team and ask things regarding how to change the Name Server or the DNS records to connect your domain to your WordPress site.
However, this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/, which i gave before has all the information your need to do that.
If you are still not sure, you can just contact the WordPress staff by adding the modlook tag on the tags section of the sidebar.
