bulk changing of post text.

My blog is ver yimage heavy, but I like to store my image files on a different server, just coz.
Unfortunately that server is closing down so I re-uploaded the images using the same directory structure. But I am now stuck with years of blog posts, all with soon-to-be-outdated image links.
I thought that by exporting the blog, then doing a search/replace in wordpad, I could easily change every single image link address to the new one by replacing the server name.
Sadly, when re-importing, for some reason all URLs are unchanged, and not only that, but where there used to be page links at the top of my page, there are now THREE of each!
If you could give me advice I’d appreciate it.

The importer does not import duplicate posts.
If you’d like to, I can empty the blog completely before you try to import again, but this cannot be undone.
Also, I recommend editing the file in Notepad. Wordpad is a word processor and adds a lot of proprietary formatting that could break the file, which would be really bad after we empty your blog.

That might be an idea – editing it in notepad. I will do this.
But can you explain what you meant by “importing duplicate posts”?

If the post already exists, it won’t be imported, therefore the content won’t be changed.
I would need to empty your entire blog first in order for that to work.

OK, I went ahead and exported the blog, and using notepad changed all the URLs.
I’m worried the multiple page menus up the top will still be there. Will that be the case? When i look in the “pages” menu, there is only one version of each page.

Great! All looks good and the links seem to work.
When the blog was deleted, the multiple page menus dropped to two… now there are FOUR of each!

In this case, I recommend just adjusting the menu as desired via Appearance -> Menus in your blog’s Dashboard.
