WordPress.COM upgrades are available only for purchase and use on WordPress.COM hosted blogs and not on any other sites.

yes I understand that
I was considering moving to a wordpress hosted blog for our domain as we’ve had issues with our current hosting provider when traffic spikes.
I was trying to workout if wordpress.com sotes have any limits i should be aware of before moving the site over?

Mapping an existing domain
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase upgrades for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
P.S. I don’t have an answer for your question so I tagged this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

Thanks Timethief
I read all the above which hasn’t provided the answer i’m looking for… Maybe a staff response is the best thing.
Thanks again

WordPress.com blogs are hosted on our super-fast network, that can handle huge amounts of traffic. Recently, one of our users went viral, and ended up with 10 million hits in one day, with no reduction in service.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
