Buy the domain you mapped and run my own site

  I have a jjpix.wordpress.com blog that is domain mapped through wordpress to jj-pix.com. This domain mapping expires in two days. I want to buy that domain name, transfer and host the same blog on my own server. How do I do this? Just let it expire and buy it up before someone else gets it?

  This guide explains how to transfer the domain name to another registrar. Please note that if the domain expires it’s not possible to transfer.

  Thanks. However, what about the domain itself? I know how to buy a domain and map it, but WordPress currently is mapping the domain I want. I want to manage the whole thing myself? Do I just wait for it to expire and I buy it up right away?

  The guide I gave you explains the steps on how to move the domain to a different domain registrar. Which means that you can move the domain to, for example: GoDaddy, or Bluehost, and manage everything yourself.

  Or you can decide to keep the domain registration at WordPress.com and change the nameserver records to point it to a different host.

  To point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), please follow the instructions here.

  Note you will need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)
