Calendar not updating

  • Unknown's avatar

When I enter my blog – http://www.corbromeirion.com directly through the address bar the calendar widget shows the current date but when I enter through the results of a Google search the date shown is February 2012 and no amount of refreshing the page alters it

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

When you visit your site through the Google search results, do you end up on the front page of your site or on an individual blog post?

If you visit the front page of your site at http://corbromeirion.com/ you should see the current date in the calendar widget. If, however, you are viewing a single post, the calendar will correspond to the date when that post was published. For example, the calendar will show February 2012 when you view this post:

CROESO I WEFAN CÔR BRO MEIRION

You can check the address that appears in your browser’s address bar to see whether you are on the front page or a single post. Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

    Dear Rachel,
Thank you for your response – sorry I’ve taken so long to respond – I’ve been on holiday for a while. You’re quite correct in your interpretation of the problem. Is there a way of by-passing or deleting the individual post so that that the Google search takes you to the front page rather than to the post? If I delete the relevant single post will I also lose the front page?
    Regards,
    Dwyryd

    Hi Dwyryd,

There isn’t a way to automatically redirect people who click that link from Google to the front page of your site. If you delete that single post, anyone who tries to visit that link (including through Google) will get a “Page not found” message instead.

However, you might want to try verifying your site with Google. You can follow the instructions on this page to verify your site: Webmaster Tools

We can’t control how Google lists your site in its search results, but verifying your site may encourage Google to list the front page of your site (rather than that single post) higher up in its search results. Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
