Can I add a plugin with a free website?

    Hi there!
    I registered my custom domain name with wordpress, and paid to do so but didn’t pay for the whole ‘premium package.’ I now really want to add a forum to my site, which takes the form of a plugin, but there’s nowhere to add plugins in my dashboard. Is this because I have a free site? Do I need to upgrade to premium to have plugins become available? For some reason I’ve been having a REALLY hard time finding the answer to this question online.

    There is no upgrade you can buy at WP.com other than the $30,000 a year VIP program, that gets you plugins. Plugins are for WordPress.ORG blogs on paid hosting only.

    You can, however, find a free forum host and link to it from your Wp.com blog for free.
