Can I forward an existing email from a domain I map to my wordpress site?

  I currently have a (non wordpress) website with a domain I own. I have an email address associate with this domain. I would like to cancel that website completely and simply use my wordpress website, map the old domain to the new wordpress website, without losing my email address. Can I simply forward that old email address to another email address I currently use through the forwarding option you provide once I add that domain to my wordpress site?

  Hi there,

  Yes, as long as you keep the domain registered with your domain registrar and you map that domain to your WordPress.com site, you can use our email forwarding feature with that domain: Email Forwarding

  I’m actually wondering now if I need to map or forward the domain I own. I simply want the old domain to redirect to dzeelouise.com (the domain I registered for my wordpress website).

  What I mean is, do I simply want to forward my domain from the registrar to my wordpress site? (I’m not keeping my old website, simply want the traffic to that domain to now go to my wordpress site) I’m not sure what the difference is between mapping and forwarding or redirecting. If I simply forward from my registrar, email forward may not be an option through wordpress, but I can find a new email host to keep that email address in that case.

  Hi there,

  Either mapping or forwarding your other domain to dzeelouise.com will make it redirect visitors to the WordPress.com site. The main difference is that mapping your domain to WordPress.com will make it so you can manage your domain and email settings from here (and use the email forwarding option).

  If you just forward the domain to dzeelouise.com, you’ll need to set up email separately — your domain registrar and new email host can help you with the settings you’ll need, in that case.
