Can I map my existing domain to an existing wordpress site?
-
I want to use WordPress to re-design my website, which will mean mapping the existing domain name to WordPress (which I’m happy to do). But I want the new site to be perfect before I map the domain name.
Can I build the site with a standard WordPress domain name and then map the new name over at a later date?
Also am I right in thinking that once I’ve done this I can cancel my existing webhosting contract (with JustHost *shudder*) without affecting the new website? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, you can do all this. Mapping a domain to a WP.com blog just means it now has TWO addresses instead of just the one. They both work. Nothing gets broken in the mapping process (although it takes a few hours for the DNS to settle down whenever you move a URL).

Thanks for this. My e-mail address also has my domain name in it – I’m guessing that as long as I follow the instructions correctly then this should also work via the new WordPress site?
