Can I merge my already-hosted website with a blog I’ve already got set up?

Or do I have to export it and import it to the already-hosted site?
Ideally I’d like to have the blog linked to my already-hosted portfolio site, but I need it to be located at alexisrichard.com/blog so I can integrate adsense. Is that possible?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi –

You can build your blog on the free address you’ve already registered and then set up a site redirect to point that to your self hosted page at alexisrichard.com/blog.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

Let me know if you have any questions about how that process looks.

Alright, that’s good to know! So if I set it up at a redirect, can I use adsense with that then? If you’d know, that is. I know that’s more of an adsense question than a wordpress question. I appreciate your help!

Oh darn, after setting up the redirect, I see that it’s an additional fee. I think I’ll just export my whole blog instead then and re upload everything on my already-hosted site. It’ll be more work but less work to fix it later (as I suspect I’ll need to). Thank you again for your help!

  • @remarkablyrenee if you’d like, you could run the redirect upgrade (pointing to alexisrichard.com/blog and just let it run for one year. When we redirect, we use a 301 code that tells search engines to update their links to point to the new site. After a year or so you could see how much traffic is coming into the old site and reevaulate whether you still need the redirect.

On the other hand, if the old address doesn’t get much traffic, I wouldn’t worry about it — just export, import, move your subscribers and stats as needed, and make the old site private. I hope this helps!
