Can I merge WordPress accounts?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I have a new email address and I mistakenly openly a second WordPress account. My original account with my WP site is under an old email address that I don’t want to use and my correct email address is now attached to the new account that I want to close. Can I merge the two accounts? It says that if I close the new account I won’t be able to use the email address for 30 days. Can you please advise? Thank you!

Hi there, yes, when you close an account, there is a 30 day period where that account is “closed” but is still in our system. We do this so that in the event someone closes an account and then wants that account back within that 30 days, we can recover it for them.

I do have an option to offer though that can be done now, and that is to move the blog that is on the old account over to the new account that has the correct email address. You can read more about doing that on the following support page.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

Make sure that you are logged into the correct account with the blog you wish to move.

Another option would be to change the email address on the new account to another one that you have temporarily to free up the correct email address and then after confirming that email address change, you can go to https://wordpress.com/me/account on your other account and change the email address.

Let us know your thoughts on the above and if you have further questions or problems, we can help with those.
