Can I re-purchase a domain?

Hi there, I was setting up my website with the help of a website builder, and bought the domain I wanted too early – before my web-builder had imported the website they had created. I cancelled my purchase, but would now like to re-purchase it. WordPress says the domain is already mapped to a site, even though it has been successfully deleted & cancelled. The site my web-builder created for me is the one I’d like to have the domain;

Yes, it is possible to re-purchase the domain after cancelation, if it’s still available. The reason you aren’t able to do so immediately after cancelling is that the cancelation process takes some time (usually few weeks) for a domain registrar to fully cancel and release a newly registered domain.
If you’d like to repurchase the domain, the staff here can help you by trying to recover the domain (if still available). I am tagging the staff to this topic for your attention.

Thanks for clarifying @jenniferlee1318. You appear to have canceled your domain name, which has resulted in a refund and also means that you no longer own it. However, you do have a few options for getting it back, let us know which you would like to move forward with!
1. Wait for grace period to end – Your domain is in a 5 day grace period (from the time you cancelled) but at the end of that it goes on sale again. As long as no one buys it before you do, you can purchase it again with another provider. According to our records it will be available on or about November 2nd.
2. Let us recover the domain – Because you have already been refunded, we can send an invoice for registration fees and restore the domain. You’ll be able to connect it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.
3. Stay on WordPress.com – The cost of your domain is included in your plan purchase. To restore your domain just purchase a new plan, and then let us know so we can reattach the domain to your WordPress.com site.
