Can I register a .com.au domain with wordpress?

  I’d like to build a simple website for a bar with wordpress, but it doesn’t seem like I can register a .com.au domain name. Is that right?
  Would I be best to register the domain through an Australian company like Godaddy and then use the domain to create the website with wordpress?

  Hi there, while you can’t register a .com.au domain with WPcom, you can register it with a 3rd party domain registrar and then you can use it with your WPcom site by purchasing and renewing at least a Personal plan and mapping your domain to your WPcom site by following this guide:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
  https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  In this scenario, you will need to renew your domain name with your registrar and your upgrade plan with WPcom.

  Hi there,

  We’re not an accredited registrar for the .com.au extension, so you can’t register such a domain with us, no.

  But if you register the domain at another domain provider, like GoDaddy, you can connect it to a site on WordPress.com using our domain mapping option:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  Note that you don’t need a domain to initially create your site. All WordPress.com sites get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain that’s assigned when you create your site, and that works just like a regular domain, so you can use that for a start, and only add your own domain later, once you’re ready.

  Thanks guys. I ended up discovering that I could create a WordPress site through GoDaddy. So I’m sorted!

If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.

WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and WordPress are separate entities with different documentation and support forums.
