Can I revert to a previous version of a post following a vital editing mistake?

  • Unknown's avatar

I added a song just in front of an image – but it was the final image in the post not the first one and thus everything in between disappeared – but not into trash and it was lost.
Can I recover it? It was a ‘sticky’ and a main subject. I don’t think I have a copy of it anywhere on my computer. I am unhappy not to be able to undo my error!!
A sticky poast should be better protected from a mistake of this nature?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I should add that the fresh song I wanted to insert did not go in.
In short I clicked to add media and instead lost editorial. ??? Odd.

    Dear rootjosh

Thank you very much indeed! But I seem to be faced with a bot of a mess in cutting and pasting the restoration.
I clicked on restore previous version top left but nothing was happening.
    Any further ideas, please?

Sorry I meant “top right” – which seemed to be what to click upon.

    Dear rootjosh

I have updated the restored correctly post as it appears in the edit, but it does not appear in like fashion when I click to see the Result tin the blog site itself.
Cache issue, probably, but I fear to trust to that through closure and re-logon

I am really struggling with this.
Clicking on the above link that you kind ly provided for a restore repeatedly worked as far as the editing window. There the post looked right. But following a clack to Update, repeatedly it failed to transfer as an update into the blog itself.
Perhaps I am wrong to click to update after I see the info looking right in the edit window.
I’ll try again now and this time I will just accept the content in the edit box/window and ask to view the post.

I am still going round in circles on this matter.
It is hard to understand why, when I can see the post looking right in the edit window, it fails to arrive almost at all in the blog (the top without the photo & the photo from the tail where it should be, no text in between the photos); or if does arrive, seemingly verbatim, it’s full of codes etc, virtually unreadable. Tried to edit it, but I don’t know enough to clear it of confusing data while leaving what I want to remain.
I am going to go to bed in a minute leaving this file open online in the hope that the matter has been taken care of by the time I get back to it.
Don’t know what else to do.
Except I have tried to copy the content ()when it looked good, as it should do) to an Office Word-type file on my computer But, being new to my ownership, I have been unable to get that done on my new computer & its unfamiliar software either.
Thanks you for trying to help me.

  • Can you tell me the time and date of the revision that you want to restore? If I know that, I can try and do it for you (or replicate the problem you are having to see if it is a bug of some sort).

Thanks. When I got back to my computer I found the post looking good in the edit box. It’s some time ago now but I think I copied it because I decided not to risk another attempt to update it in situ. Then I created a New Post with it – and this worked. Phew!
Today I have made the new post Sticky and am back nearly to where I was. The only oddity is that the audio track does not appear in brackets in the edit box as I’m used to seeing, so if I want to add a media file just there it’s in the lap of the Gods which side of the existing it will appear or what will happen to the track already there (not one of my best).
Background: The whole incident began when I tried to add a new media file beside the photo image of me which was located at the bottom of the post proper. But, so used to seeing it, I confused it with being the 1st photo image in the post. This was the moment when, to my horror, the original text between the two photo images all disappeared, never to be recovered in tact since, as such (i.e., complete with images). I can remember a thin black line that followed the left side of my bottom photo image at the point when I thought I was added an audio track in front of it. HTH.
Anyway, all seems ‘well that’s ended well.’
Might be worth your looking at the most recent audio addition to my media collection (I Live in a Song) to see if there is anything odd about it. Delete it if you like and let me know if there is anything I should watch out for when I add it in again, which I certainly want to – so if there’s a prob with it, it doesn’t throw up again!!!
If someone did work on the dormant open site in the night (to account for how the in-tact page was found waiting for me when I got back to the case, please thank this person profusely. It isn’t that terrific as a post, I guess, but I did re-work and re-work it to get it to its present state. So you can imagine my relief not to have to go thru that all again!! :)
In passing, I’m open to suggestion on obvious improvements I can make to the organisation of the blog. I’m earnest about it’s contents but hopeless at figuring out all the tricks of the trade on how to attract visitors/contributors. I guess you’re busy, but if there isn’t anything quick and obvious that should be done to it by me, give the bloody think a tweak or two for me and oblige. Thanks if you do.
    Best wishes
    GG

  • I’m not seeing anything weird.

So perhaps we can chalk this up to a glitch of some sort. Let me know if you have trouble of a similar sort again.
