Can I transfer my domain later?

  I already have a domain with a live site. Can I create a new, replacement site in wordpress and then switch the URL over when it is ready?

  Hi suretrain,

  It’s worth noting there are two types of WordPress — WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

  WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  On WordPress.com, you can create a site with a free address (containing “.wordpress.com”) and start adding content, choosing a theme etc. The domain credit in paid plans doesn’t have to be used straight away so when you are ready, the existing domain can be mapped or transferred to WordPress.com.

  I recommend posting to the WordPress.org support forums for advice if you would prefer to go down that route (not hosting the site on WordPress.com).
