Can I transfer my site to self-host and retain premium theme?

    Hi,
I spoke with one of your colleagues (theme designer) and said I would like to go self-hosted. Unfortunately, this means I have to cancel the theme, as I can’t take it with me. He mentioned Studiopress? Do they do the Lifestyle theme too? My reason for wanting to transfer is so that I can use tags and categories with pages (as I understand there is a plugin which enables this) and to later monetise with Adsense etc.

Can you help with the migration? I would go to bluehost. What is the exact order in which I should carry out this process?
    Many thanks
    David

  • Hi David, while premium themes can’t be transferred between WordPress.com and self-hosted sites, they are refundable for up to 30 days after purchase. Since you bought the theme on June 10, feel free to cancel and refund it under Store > My Upgrades:

We have a full guide to moving to a self-hosted WordPress installation. We do offer a Guided Transfer service if you’d prefer to let us handle things for you.

Just let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Kathryn,
that’s very helpful indeed. One of your colleagues suggested that I can use Studiopress. I went over there and see that they also have the same Lifestyle theme, so I could continue with this.

I would like you to do the Guided Transfer for me. The other issue is that apart from options to monetise, I would like to change the new blog (at Bluehost) so that I only have pages (but these have tags and categories). I know this works as I have to add articles to another WP blog hosted at bluehost (www.lfig.org) – where there are no posts and dates in the file name.

Will it be possible for me to transfer the posts I have here to the new host and change them to pages? Or should I just create a new page and delete the posts? As I only have about 10 posts so far, it is something I would be able to manage, if necessary.

    thanks again, David

Sure, when you’re ready you can purchase it under Store:

    https://fishoilupdate.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php

You’ll need to first activate a non-premium theme and revert back to default fonts if you’ve selected any special fonts.

Will it be possible for me to transfer the posts I have here to the new host and change them to pages?

There is no built in way to convert pages to posts. You may find a plugin that does this but you would need to be very careful as this involves database changes. Be sure to back up your content first.

My reason for wanting to transfer is so that I can use tags and categories with pages (as I understand there is a plugin which enables this)

May I ask what your goal is in being able to add tags and categories to your pages and using them instead of posts? It’s not a common request so I’m curious. :-)
