Can I trial WordPress without bringing my site over from wix?

I’m thinking of changing to WordPress but heard it is more difficult to use than Wix where I currently am. I was hoping to try creating a site here first to see if I am able to do it myself before bringing my address to WordPress. Is there a way to make a sight offline (and not connected to a web address)? Just so I can practice and make sure it makes sense to migrate my site over? I don’t want to bring it over and find out its too difficult for me or not worth my time to redo the site. Thanks!

Hi there, when you create a new WPcom website, by default it is not visible to the public or to search engines until you launch it. Your site is online with a free WPcom web address so you can log in to work on it, but only visible to you and anyone you invite to view it.

Depending on your needs, you might want to see the features available with the WPcom upgrade plans, but you can start entirely for free and then upgrade later if you choose. Here’s more on that: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

You can find a new site set up tutorial at https://wordpress.com/learn/ and the support site at https://en.support.wordpress.com/ where the search function is very helpful. And of course, there are these community forums for questions. If you upgrade, you’ll have access to support by LiveChat and email.

Let us know if you have any other question about this.

Thank you so much! I couldn’t figure out how to get the site going because it kept asking me what my existing website was.

I used the pricing link and got it to work.

    Thanks again!
