can I upgrade to a pro site without changing the current function/look ?

I want to make sure if I upgrade to a pro address { I can get the .com so that wordepress is not seen in the url, I just really want the shorter address for now, and may make changes later when I have time } that the look or function of my blog site wont change unless I want it to. Also, will the old blog post links no longer work, or when I upgrade will wordpress automatically redirect my old url to the new pro url? I do I have to upgrade to pro and then also pay and do a redirect so the old wordpress address leads to the new .com address which is the exact same name but without the ‘wordpress’ that shoes in a free template site?

If you change to a custom domain name all that changes is the name that your visitors see in their browser address bar –

If you map your custom domain name to a blog here then all the old links will still work – the change will be seamless –

wonderful, thank you. I was nervous to hit yes to the upgrade to pro version and then have everything change or run amuck! I can get the .com for what I want which is great, recently I changed my public name for twitter and pinterest and then all of sudden old links were not active or they would not direct to my new name even though I was the same user with the same account! so wanted to make sure this wouldn’t happen with my blog

All upgrades can be individually purchased. http://en.support.wordpress.com/upgrades/ Before you purchase a pro upgrade bundle please be sure that you need the upgrades included in that bundle http://en.support.wordpress.com/bundles/

Thanks again. I read the link provided by timetheif which was helpful… but not clear if when I upgrade will wordpress automatically do the ‘domain mapping’ or is this an added service I have to buy when I get the pro address? I have a few addresses reserved in wordpress, with no content at the moment. I suppose I should have all these redirect to active blog too. Eventually I will be moving my website over to a wordpress site and hope to connect my blog to that site address once the new website is done, but that might be a while. I have been told it is best just to buy the domains from wordpress instead of godaddy for example, as I will get added wordpress features. On another note, is there a ‘person’ at wordpress support I can call or have call me via their support site. Couldn’t find this option?
