Can we obtain or purchase a full XML export file?
-
We have the following website, which uses the ‘free’ Edin theme: medtech2016.wordpress.com .
When trying to export to our own web-servers (at a different, non-partner location), we noticed the Media Library portion of the XML file is ‘blocked’. Can we purchase the full export XML file for a fee or somehow obtain an export of the Media Library?
We looked at the ‘Guided Transfer’ option, however, this won’t work for us because we are trying to transfer the site to our own web-servers, not one of your ‘partner’ locations. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
WordPress export files (whether WordPress.com or self-hosted) only contains links to the image files, not the files themselves. There is no option to export the media files themselves.
Instead, when you import the file to a new WordPress site, that site’s importer will attempt to pull across the images referenced in the file after the initial import completes. But for this to happen the source site must be publicly accessible.
I fee the site you’re exporting from is set to private. If you set that site to public but hidden from search engines and then import it on your self-hosted site, the media files should import as well.
Be aware that this doesn’t always work as it should. It’s a known issue with WordPress imports and not much you can do about it. On WordPress.com we have ways to get around the issue, but on a self-hosted site you’ll need to manually re-upload any images that don’t get moved across automatically.
