Can wordpress.COM be used as webhost for a wordpress.ORG?
-
My friend and I had our wires crossed on setting up a website for a fundraiser we’re doing together. I purchased a theme (from Theme.co) and she handled the web-hosting, domain name, etc. She purchased through her wp.COM account though. Now I’m stuck, how do I get the site from the wp.COM to wp.ORG?
FYI: She made me an admin on the site and sent me the purchase receipt.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The short answer is No.
You will have to find paid hosting elsewhere. Hosting here is free, but it comes with security restrictions that include not using external themes. If you are absolutely set on using that theme, you need to come up with $120 a year or so for hosting.
As for the domain name, you can easily point that to another site or move the entire thing including management to a different company.

If it were me, I’d just get the money back on the theme instead and stay here. But it is up to you.

Thanks raincoaster – that is very helpful. I was suspecting the answer would be no. Bummer! I do think you’re right about staying on wp.com – just for keeping the cost down and admitting to myself that I really don’t have the skills and time to make the switch.
Thanks again for your advice – I would have been lost without it.
