Can you help me reinstate recent pages?

  I recently updated my pages, namely my portfolio section. The pages have been published, and are available for public view, but when I click on the page it takes me back to the home page, or displays an error message. Even pressing on ‘view’ from the edit page section takes me to the same place.

  Could you please advise how I solve this problem. I deleted a series of pages, tried to edit the primary menu and in the end deleted that. I thought if I started afresh this would help. I must have altered a setting I’m not aware of.
