Cancel Wordpreess.com site

  I had a WordPress.com site years ago. The domain name is registered through GoDaddy. I have kept the domain name, but the site no longer functions on WordPress. I have recently started from scratch to resurrect the blog, NOT using WordPress. I have connected the domain to my newly created site. However, when I type the URL iton a search engine, it takes me to WordPress.com rather than my new site. How do I disconnect my domain/URL from WordPress?

  Which domain do you need help? If the domain is registered through GoDaddy but still pointing to WordPress.com, it sounds like the name servers may still be pointed here.
