Canceled Domain

  Hello,

  I have been having trouble with a domain that I cancelled in July. I was told that after the thirty day period where the domain would be unavailable to purchase on another hosting site the domain would be released to the public. I have not been able to purchase the domain, however. Can you tell me how long it takes for a domain to be released to the public after cancellation?

  Hi there,

  Who told you the domain would be available again after 30 days? Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. You should only cancel a domain if you’re completely sure you no longer want it at all.

  The account you’re using to post here has never owned any domains with WordPress.com and was only created nine hours ago. Please tell me the domain name involved, and then I can advise you on which options are available going forward.
