Canceled Domain

  I purchased a domain (www.exploretheseven.com) and canceled it within the 2-day window. I am wondering if I can purchase the domain back through wordpress.org and self-host the site? I know the cancellation stated that there was no guarantee that I could get it back but how do I know if I’ve lost it completely or it’s just hasn’t been released back yet? When I try to register it, it says it’s not available. Thank you.

  The domain exploretheseven.com just hasn’t been released yet. (That’s why we recommend not canceling domains if you’d like to keep using them. We have more about how to use domains with other hosts here: Move Your Domain to Another Host)

  You can check the domain’s WHOIS information to see if it’s still being processed or if it’s available to register:

  http://who.is/whois/exploretheseven.com

  Thank you! It was completely my fault for getting ahead of myself and canceling the domain along with the upgrade. Any idea on how long it may take to get released? I’m sure it varies, I’m just looking for a ballpark range since I’m totally new at this (obviously…). I appreciate your help.

  Domains are sometimes released within just a few days, but in other cases it can take several weeks. If you’d like to get the domain back sooner, we can try to get our domain registrar to re-instate it for you.

  If you’d like to try that, just let me know. I can send you a payment request for the domain registration, and then I’ll contact our domain registrar to try to get the domain back for you. You can then point the domain to another host so you can self-host the site. (It’s probably less hassle to wait and register it with your new host, but this is an option we can try if you’d like!)

  I just went to do that for you, but I discovered that the domain was just released by our domain registrar. So you can now register it with your new host if you’d like. :)

  WordPress.org also has the steps for getting set up with a host and installing WordPress on their front page here: http://wordpress.org/
