Cancelled Domain Transfer
-
Hi there! I recently purchased a domain transfer to a wordpress.com site. Afterward I learned that I should be on wordpress.org instead so I cancelled it. Was that wrong thing to do? I had access to my site on wordpress.org, but that now that I cancelled the other and asked for a refund I am no longer able to access my account in wordpress.org. Please help me.
Thank you in advance,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
I recently purchased a domain transfer to a wordpress.com site.
I can see you purchased a plan which included domain mapping for joyfullittlemess.com. Domain mapping creates a connection between an existing domain and WordPress.com but it won’t transfer the domain itself here (that is a different process). If this isn’t the domain you need help with, can you send a link?
Afterward I learned that I should be on wordpress.org instead so I cancelled it. Was that wrong thing to do?
Registering a domain through WordPress.com and cancelling it would mean giving up ownership. However joyfullittlemess.com is registered with GoDaddy (and only mapped here), so cancelling the domain mapping upgrade won’t cancel the domain itself — this can only be done through your GoDaddy account.
I had access to my site on wordpress.org, but that now that I cancelled the other and asked for a refund I am no longer able to access my account in wordpress.org.
I’m currently seeing a domain mapping error when visiting joyfullittlemess.com. Although the name servers are pointing to GoDaddy, the A records are still pointing to WordPress.com. I recommend contacting GoDaddy and asking them to add new A records (to point to their servers). They should be able to help you access the site afterwards.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
