Cancelled/Expired Domain
-
How do I get my domain name back? I cancelled it today as I had secured hosting under another provider and was under the impression it transferred (as I entered the authorization code and all, and have a new hosting account under that domain). For whatever reason, it did not transfer and I don’t want to lose it, so I need to figure out how to reactivate it through here.

Hey there,
If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/
For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
If you recently registered the domain, you have to wait 60 days before you are able to transfer your domain to a different host, but in the meantime, you can use the domain with your site by pointing the nameservers over to your new host:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/
I’ll be happy to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
Just confirm and I’ll proceed with the reactivation.
Thanks!
