Cancelling a .com blog.
-
I started with a wordpress.com blog and then soon afterwards changed to a wordpress.org blog through BlueHost. I am not using the first .com blog, but it does have the same name as the .org blog ie: ‘A Meaningful Life’. How do I shut down the first .com blog without jeopardising my .org blog, seeing as they both have the same name.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Kardotim,
Thank you for your response, but it didn,t address the specific issue I raised. I am aware of the procedures of how to delete a blog, but I am more specifically concerned that my new blog (.org) has the SAME NAME as my old one (.com). If I delete the old one it looks as if I lose the right to the name in the process? Is that correct, or is my new blog in no danger at all if I delete the old one. -
If you delete old-blog.wordpress.com – yes you loose the contents and the use of that blog name.
Set old-blog.wordpress.com to Private then if you want to come back here you can use that name again
It sounds like you have a blog at blue host (old-blog.com) as long as you keep the registration paid (old-blog.com) for you are in fine shape
Without the actual names / URL’s of the blogs / sites in quesiton it is a bit difficult to give you advice that makes sense –
Your blue host domain name should have no connection to your blog here
If you post the real names then we can give you more clear help

Thanks for the follow up. My old blog is http://www.wordpress-johnmountford.com; my new one, hosted by Bluehost is http://www.johnmountford.com. Both are called ‘A Meaningful Life’. There is nothing that i need to transfer from the old one to the new.

It looks like http://johnmountford.wordpress.com/ has just been sitting there (the link you gave was broken – this is my best guess) – two followers – I would make a new Post “I have moved” with the new URL – that lets your two followers know what happened – then I would just leave the old blog here – remember to save the log-in info – there is no requirement that you use a blog – so if you ever decide to use the blog it will be waiting for you – nice name so it would be a shame to delete it – with no content it has no search engine juice so will not hurt your new site
