Cancelling and Disconnect Domain

    Hi WordPress Staff,

    I have purchased http://www.chenwenhwang.com one year ago 2016 August with WordPress, but now it has expired and I would like to have WordPress to disconnect it on your ICANN account because I would like to purchase the domain on other domain host server. Please help me disconnect it from your server.

    Hi there,

    Expired domains go through a redemption and cancellation process that lasts around 80 days before they are released. During this period the registrar can also sell the domain at private auction, so you shouldn’t let a domain expire if you still want to use it. If you wanted to use the domain somewhere else it would have been better to renew it and then transfer it to the new registrar.

    There is no way for us to manually release a domain and have it skip the redemption process, so you have two options:

    1) Wait for the process to run its course, which can take several more weeks, and you will be at risk of losing the domain.

    2) We can attempt to recover the domain from redemption for you and then help you transfer it. Our registrar charges a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption so I’ll need you to agree to that fee before I can start a recovery.
