Cancelling domain – what happens to it?
-
I want to cancel a new domain registration. I would like to know wheat WordPress means when they say they cannot guarantee that the domain will be available after it has been cancelled within 48 hours. I am interested in registering this same domain with another company/registrar (that doesn’t accept incoming domain registrations so I cannot transfer it). Please help!

Hi there,
When a domain registration is cancelled, it isn’t released immediately by our domain registrar. It can take up to several weeks for the domain to be released, and even then it could be grabbed by someone else before you’re able to re-register it. That’s why we include the warning before cancelling a new domain registration.
If you’d like to use the domain somewhere else, you don’t have to cancel it. You can keep it registered at WordPress.com and point it to another website host by changing the domain’s nameservers: Change Name Servers
I’d be happy to help with that, if you’d like! Just let me know where you want to use your domain and I can help you set it up. :)
