Cancelling domains and closing site

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi folks. Forgive me, as I promise I searched the support database and saw many things close to our question, but not exactly.

I designed this site for friend and client, Dr. Bruce Levine, who is starting to plan retirement and would like to let the site and domains go. The domains expire in about a month and it would be great to get this done before he leaves. Is it possible to cancel the domains on your end manually, rather than waiting for them to expire? I assume after the domains have been canceled I can then go in and delete the site and close his account, is that correct?

Thanks in advance for your help! I’m a huge WP fan and never use anything else.

    Hi Ken,

I can cancel those domains for you now so you don’t have to wait for them to expire. Please keep in mind that canceling a domain means you completely give up ownership of that domain name. The domain name may not be released immediately, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to register it again in the future.

Can you please confirm that you no longer want the domains brucelevinephd.com and brucellevinephd.com at all? (I just want to be sure, as it can be difficult to get a domain back once it’s cancelled.)

Once those domains have been cancelled, you can indeed delete the site: Delete Site

However, WordPress.com accounts themselves are not deleted — you can see more about that here: Deleting Accounts

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
