Cancelling my WordPress account

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi staff , I just cancelled my WordPress account subscription + my domain today , as I no longer have time to manage it. May I know if I can get a refund or at least a partial refund for the 132 dollars annual hosting fee ? ( cause I only signed up for the subscription barely a month ago – haven’t even used it much)

    Many thanks!

My account email is (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    Many thanks !

  • Hey there,

Not a problem! I have canceled your subscription for your subscriptions and refunded the charges back to you. It can take between 7-10 business days for the refund to reflect on your bank statement.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Take care,

Oh thank you so much !

Can I also confirm that I have cancelled the domain for “edgyenglish.com “ ?

Does it mean that this domain is now freed up , and it can now be owned by another person ?

My friend wants to take up this domain instead , and I allow him to do so .

So I just want to know whether this domain is now made available for a third party .

Many thanks & take care !

  • We have cancelled the domain, yes, but it will be some time before that domain becomes available again.

Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. In this case, the domain should be removed from our system in around five days, after which it will enter redemption at the registry.

Redemption lasts 30 days, and the domain should be released a few days after that. Only at that point does it become available for registration again, but there’s no guarantee your friend will be able to buy it even then – if anyone has the domain on back-order already, it will be registered for them the moment it becomes available.

The only way to guarantee that your friend is able to use this domain is if we restore it to your account (we’ll need to get payment for the domain again in that case). Then you can transfer ownership of the domain to your friend, if they want to use it here on WordPress.com, or you can unlock the domain and give your friend the transfer code so that they can transfer it out to the domain provider of their choosing.

Let me know if you want to do that instead and we can get the process started to get the domain back before it enters redemption.
