Cancelling the auto renew

    I purchased a plan upgrade in September of last year from free blogging to the CSS. I received an email saying it will auto renew and charge me $99. Due to financial difficulties, I would like to cancel the upgrade and just use the free blogging for this year. How do I cancel the payment and go back to free?

    Hi there,

    You can do that by going to Store > My Upgrades in your Dashboard. There will be a link to Disable Auto-Renew.

    Please note we don’t recommend letting a domain lapse if you want to keep it, for the following reasons:

    * Domain expirations don’t happen immediately. Registrars have a grace period of 30–90 days during which they’ll hold on to the domain and give the owner a chance to renew it after it’s expired. The domain isn’t usable by anyone else during this period, and it wouldn’t be pointing to your site during this time either.

    * Once that grace period is up, there is a good chance that the domain could get purchased by someone else before you have a chance to re-register it, in the hopes that they can charge you more to get the domain back.
