Cannot connect two WordPress sites to one account
-
I have two WordPress sites but I cannot merge them because of password mix ups. With my current login credentials neither website is connected to my account.
-
Hi givememick,
Which sites would you like to connect to the givememick account you are currently logged in to?
If you let me know, I’ll look at the best way forward.
Thanks!

Hello,
The sites I have are http://www.givememick.com and http://www.thelightwasalwayshere.wordpress.com. The givememick site was built on BlueHost. When I now login to WordPress, it says that I have no sites.
-
Thanks — thelightwasalwayshere.wordpress.com is owned by another WordPress.com account but you could transfer site ownership to your givememick account instead:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
givememick.com is a WordPress.org site hosted by Bluehost. However, the Jetpack plugin can be used to connect that site to your WordPress.com account:
The site would remain hosted by Bluehost but you would be able to manage the site through your account here.
Come back to me if you have any questions.

Thank you, I was able to finally connect thelightwasalwayshere, but cannot find on the jetpack website how to do a transfer. I am needing further instruction.
I did see on WordPress how to transfer but there was a fee to do it.

but cannot find on the jetpack website how to do a transfer.
Using the Jetpack plugin won’t transfer the whole site over to WordPress.com, it will just create a connection between that site and your account here. Do you want to move givememick.com over to WordPress.com, so the site is hosted by us?
-
I don’t believe it is necessary to transfer the site to WordPress. I am just wondering why, when I log in to WordPress, the site is not recognized. I can go to WordPress from my BlueHost site but I can not access the site from WordPress. I do not understand why that is.

Hi givememick,
I am just wondering why, when I log in to WordPress, the site is not recognized.
givememick.com is a self hosted WordPress.org site which means it won’t be listed in your WordPress.com account automatically — the two aren’t connected in any way at the moment.
Once the Jetpack plugin has been installed and setup, givememick.com should be listed in the My Sites area of your WordPress.com account.
-
I have Jetpack installed on the site already so I don’t understand the need to purchase it again.

Hi givememick,
It looks like you connected givememick.com to another WordPress.com account — sheshashy. The site can be disconnected to that account if you would prefer to manage it through givememick instead:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/disconnect-jetpack-sites/
The site can then be connected to the correct account and you can continue using the free Jetpack plan if you wish.
-
Hello,
Thank you for helping me. I see how to disconnect the WordPress site with my sheshashy login but I am afraid of losing my webpage. If I disconnect from that old account, how do I then connect the site to my current givememick account?

Hi Michelle,
I see how to disconnect the WordPress site with my sheshashy login but I am afraid of losing my webpage.
Disconnecting Jetpack won’t remove the site itself, just the connection to your sheshashy account. You can still login at:
http://givememick.com/wp-admin
Once Jetpack has been disconnected, log out of your sheshashy account and then log back in as givememick. There should be an option to connect Jetpack from the dashboard on givememick.com:
http://givememick.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack#/dashboard
Click “Connect Jetpack” and follow the steps.
Let me know how you get on.

Hello gmmacevans,
You did it! Well you really helped me out, and I think the two sites are merged into one with one account login! Thank you for sticking with me to help me solve the issue. One last thing, how do I delete the sheshashy WordPress account to eliminate any further confusion!
Thank you,
Michelle G.

Hi Michelle,
This is great news, I’m glad I could help :) Both sites are listed in your givememick account now and you should be able to switch between them from My Sites.
One last thing, how do I delete the sheshashy WordPress account to eliminate any further confusion!
These steps will guide you through the process of deactivating your sheshashy account:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-deactivation/
I hope that helps but I’ll be here if you need anything.
-
Hello,
I cannot delete the sheshashy site still because it says I have no sites with WordPress to manage or delete?? I did clear out the content but can’t delete totally.
Thank you again,
Michelle G.

Hi Michelle,
I cannot delete the sheshashy site still because it says I have no sites with WordPress to manage or delete??
That’s correct. There are no sites listed in your sheshashy account, so you only need to follow the account deactivation steps from here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-deactivation/#remove-your-personal-information
Thanks!
