Cannot create a new blog

    Folks,

    I’m wanting to start a new site, so I went here:

    https://wordpress.com/create-blog/

    Following all the very simple prompts, after I reach the end of the process, I am dumped right back to where I started.

    There were no other warnings about anything. I’m bringing a domain I already have, and leaving it with the current registrar, if that matters. I expect to be in one of the ‘paid’ tiers, but I am setting up a free blog, learning the WP ropes.

    I don’t know what other info I can give that would allow anyone to assist me! I did do it three times, and I did restart Safari each time. I’m using a Mac running 10.14.6. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    (If it helps I am a very longtime Mac user and far from a newbie. Excepting now, of course…)

    Hi there,

    I wonder if Safari might not be the problem here – getting stuck in a loop like what you’re describing usually points to a browser problem. Try clearing Safari’s cache, and if you’re using any browser add-ons, try disabling those.

    Solve Common Browser Issues

    If that doesn’t work, could you try installing Firefox or Chrome and see if that makes any difference?

    And just to confirm, at the moment you’re selecting the free WordPress.com address and selecting the free plan during the site creation process?

    Good Afternoon,

    Problem resolved; as others may see this, here is what worked for me:

    Nothing.

    Ok, ok. Staying in Safari, I took the steps suggested, and in that order, closing/opening Safari after each, and to no effect. In the end I went to Firefox, with which I was able to get going with no issues.

    I still have no idea what happened, or why WP choked on Safari. I have to conclude that the issue is entirely on my own desktop, or my own sloppy habits. There are so many Safari users out there that an issue specific to Safari would be quickly identified and fixed by the WP folks.

    I am still going through WP’s blog setup, not wanting to change my horses. And: the underlying magic here is surely a marvel! Don’t even think of Weebly or whatever. This is the way to go.
